Registering a Motorcar with a Save Championship
My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of:California
I bought a vehicle with a salve title in June of 2009 in northern California from a individual mechanic. The seller did not take license plates because the vehicle was salvaged and required inspection by CHP in gild to have the plates issued. I take the title in hand, I got the smog washed, paid the registration fee, and bought a years worth of insurance on it. I had several suspicions about the car and the transaction, but when we turned in the paperwork to the DMV, everything was fine. They just required me to go to the CHP to have it inspected. Correct me if Im wrong, but I suspected that the car was stolen, so when in that location was null on DMV records that said that the automobile was stolen, I was pretty relieved. Then at that place came another suspicion I read over the paperwork issued by the DMV and it said that the registered owner is an insurance company and non the person I bought it from (does this unremarkably happen?) . And then I went online to run the VIN to see if the car was stolen and results came upwardly saying that the car was auction off to someone in northern California. If the car was stolen the DMV would accept had reddish flag on record for it when someone tries to register or transfer information technology, right? Anyways fast forrard to August, Ive moved down to southern California to become to school, and I finally get a chance to make an appointment with the CHP to become my car inspected so I can become my plates, and the receptionist the CHP station tells me to bring some documents and the pecker of repair. The problem is I dont have any repair bills considering the motorcar was already repaired when I bought it, and I cant contact the person I bought information technology from considering Ive changed my phone since then. Oh yeah, The machine drives fine, and all of the VINs on the car match upwards.
I guess my chief questions are
ane) If I have the Title and paid all of the fees involved then far, could the DMV claim my automobile?
2) Does a salve vehicles ownership usually belong to an insurance visitor? Should I be suspicious of annihilation?
three) What is the best course of action?
4) Is information technology possible that I am a victim of fraud?I am in Southern California all by myself, and if I dont take a auto. I Volition Exist F***ED. Please advise.
Thanks and have a nice day

Re: Registering a Auto with a Salvage Championship
If your automobile was stolen, it was stolen. If it was not stolen and you bought information technology legitimately, then you ain it. If yous have reason to believe that y'all purchased a stolen auto and thus that it might be taken from you lot and returned to the bodily owner, we accept no mode to investigate that or to disabuse you lot of your suspicion.
You are suggesting that who might have committed fraud, past doing what? If you have been sold a stolen vehicle, that would propose fraud somewhere along the line.

Re: Registering a Car with a Salvage Title
Having an insurance visitor listed as an R/O (registered possessor) is mutual on save titles; the person who previously endemic it either got in a wreck or the machine was stolen and subsequently recovered with multiple parts missing, and the insurance company decided it wasn't worth information technology to fix then they just "totalled" it or wrote it off. Ofttimes times insurance companies will sell these cars to parts yards and the like, simply sometimes private individuals purchase these for pennies on the dollar, set them up, and so sell them. So long as the paperwork was initiated by the person you bought it from before they really sold it to you lot, then it's legit and there's no problem. If they didn't at least initiate the paperwork, then technically information technology's not legit, but only to the extent that they need a dealer'southward license from DMV. In other words, y'all're fine.
By the way DMV volition not "merits your car." They don't impound or store vehicles except in rare cases involving commercial cargo. It would be a law enforcement agency (constabulary, Sheriff's, CHP, etc.) that would tow, and so long every bit your registration'south valid or yous have a valid temp displayed, and it doesn't popular upwardly as a reported stolen (which yous already said it didn't - DMV uses the same system as every police force enforcement agency in the country for that, chosen NCIC or National Criminal offence Information Center), you lot're fine and then long equally yous don't park information technology illegally. And even so, in CA in that location are VERY few reasons it could be towed for that, and they're mostly obscure ones.

Re: Registering a Automobile with a Salvage Title
This has been a heavy subject area on the back of my listen for the last ii months. I was agape that I was a victim of fraud and that I would accept had to pay for it. My car is my nigh valuable nugget. Information technology'south non worth much just it has taken me thousands of miles without ever asking for anything except gas and oil. I don't even want to imagine how difficult my life would be without it.
Thank you very much CPO_MK. If y'all get this, Have a wonderful twenty-four hours.
